Twitter Bans Third-Party Adverts After Promoted Tweets Go Live
Making the announcement on its official blog, Dick Costolo, Twitter's Chief Executive Officer, said that the company had decided to ease the burden on the micro-blogging site, and free its users from any confusion arising because of advertisements from other companies.
In a recent interview with The Times newspaper at Twitter's Chirp conference in San Francisco, Costolo had ruled out any immediate plan to ban third-party advertisements on its site - though he did not deny the possibility of doing so in the near future.
The move helps Twitter exercise greater control over the micro-blogging site, protecting it from encroachment by third-party advertisers.
