Search engines use the number of links to a page from other relevant web sites or blogs as one measurement of how important that web page or home page is.

So, quite simply, if a page has a lot of links coming to it then it will be ranked higher andwill be more visible in search listings. This is especially relevant if the linking sites are well known, high authority web sites such as news sites or influential blogs.

as a abusiness you will be aiming to obtain links from appropriate web sites and blogs within your industry. One of the important ways is to place content that is valuable on your site that others will want to link to. This could be a blog section in your web site or you could link your personal blog to your business web site.

ANother strategy is to actively go out and generate links. In the business environment this could include making sure you are listed with important trade directories or industry bodies and associations.

Ask your business partners and customers to link to you from their sites or to mention you in their blogs.

Use PR  to generate links by distributing online press releases or offer to write for key online publications as these often give you the opportunity to link back to your site or personal blog.
