How to save your dying web site.

1. Make it super easy for users to sign on and share content.

At the most basic level, social media is about helping people create and share content. Features that enable this process have been the standard in blogs and news sites for years, but there is no reason why they can't be emplyed on corporate or businss web sites as well.

If you are creating content your web site visitors need and want a way to share information - so make it easy by using a standard sharing facility.

When you look at the networks where people most like to share content, Facebook and Twitter are the most popular. But why limit your visitors to just one? If you want to put word-of-mouth into overdrive, you should enable visitors to share with multiple networks easily and simultaneously. Keep it simple by adding one place to do this. Adding a different button or each social platform will just clutter up your site.

2. Create content that can and will be shared

You have probably heard that "content is king" so may times that it probably makes your eyes glazed over. But what does it mean to make content that peole want to share?

Good content should share a resourse, solve a problem or help customers to do their jobs better.

We should also point out that content is not just text but consider graphs, charts, photo's, diagrams - these can be understood quickly and easily.

When it comes to online video - the statistics are stagering, with the use of live streaming video jumping over 600 percent over the period of a year.

Taking this into consideration it is not surprising that savvy brands have made their web sites like media sites - so we should all be looking to be publishers now!

This is no easy task for a business to change it's web site from being a passive, static set of pages to a content driven media type site, or even part of a site. You will need to think how you want to engage with your web site and then a strategy will need to put in place.

This isn't going to happen overnight but the results over a period of time should transform your web site as a marketing platform for your business.
