Is "Blog" the right word for something that can be so powerful for your business?
"Blogs build familiarity and positive branding… The cardinal rule is - people do business with you because they know you, like you and they trust you - blogging accomplishes all three."
Bit, I feel for this marketing to really gain acceptance for business we should give blooging a new name - one that works for business. Maybe just call it the "About Us" section of the web site - after all these are usually full of corporately worded, non personal copy.
So lets change the word Blog for About Us or About Me!
"About Me" - This humanises people and companies to the outside world and make far deeper connections than newsletters or press releases." If you think about it, which company would you rather work with?: Company A -- with 20-50 employees, with no discernable "personality"; or Company B - with 23 employees, a founder name Sue who loves to talk social media, an office manager named John who writes about food, and has one local Cheltenham office? See what I mean.
Another huge benefit of a good "About Us' (Blog) section is that they are automatically optimised for search engines. Search engines love fresh content. But that’s not the only way these pages are powerful tools to rank high. Indeed, most blog type pages are structured to offer a high degree of search engine optimisation as standard. Including your About Us or "blog pages" on your business's site (and not on a separate site), will show search engines that you're constantly updating your website, and not letting it just sit around and gather dust. This makes your website more relevant in a search engine's mind.
These pages are also great for building links. If your "About Us" (blog) is about Italian food, you can join food blog conglomerates, "meet" other Italian food bloggers and exchange links -- reaffirming that your pages is trusted by others and is indeed about Italian food. Score!
Having active About Us pages (blog) is a fantastic way to initiate conversations with readers and customers -- and learn how to make your business even better. It shows your customers that you care.
